About the SlumpHump Molds

Years after I developed the bat molds for the wheel, I purchased a slab roller to increase my output and once again I discovered that I could not find drape molds.  Ironically, I spent the next year developing drape molds just to use my slab roller.  One issue of Ceramic Monthly magazine had an article on making your own drape molds, but I found their process too time consuming.

Once again, responding to a lack of resources to solve my problems, I developed my "SlumpHump" molds.  I wanted a drape mold that was reversible, since with some pieces it is advantageous to add a foot, and with others, to add handles. I also wanted a mold that would allow you to work both right side up or upside down.  Plus, the versatility of this design allowed me to work both shallow or deep -- so I could create a platter or a baking dish from the same mold.

My parents weren't thrilled when I quit my "real job" to become a potter, and when I told them I was now making my living from something called the "SlumpHump," they really thought I had gone over the edge!

Working this way may sound a little strange at first, but now, fifteen years later, and with thousands of satisfied customers who have field tested this product and continue to use it, I am still going strong, more certain than ever these pure and simple tools really do the job!
